Raw Awareness- My Journey into the Raw Food Diet

Hi there!

Welcome to my site! I'm very glad to have you here. The reason I made up this site was because I recently started something called the Raw Food Diet and it was so good, I wanted to share the rest of my journey with others so maybe they could benefit from it also.

What is the raw food diet?

It's a diet composed mostly of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Ok I know what you're thinking. That sounds a lot like fasting! How unhealthy! Well actually, it isn't as unhealthy as it sounds. The theory behind it goes like this:

Cooked food takes a lot of effort to digest. It can take 4 days just to fully digest a steak dinner, by which time we often move on to eating other meat dinners that will take up more digesting time. The upshot of this is that, because the body is so busy digesting, it cannot absorb the nutrients found in the vegetables we eat. I don't know about you, but I have never been able to eat the recommended dosage of 5-7 servings of vegetables while eating a high protein diet. Even if it is a low fat diet and I'm doing my exercise every day, I still come up short. Maybe the most veggies I had on a low fat diet was 2 or something, and those were heated up potatoes and corn. Don't get me wrong-there are lots of advantages to low fat diets, and when combined with exercise you can lose a lot of weight on them. However, it does take an awfully long time to see results, and sometimes, despite your very best efforts to cut out fat and stay lean, you can still come down with an illness or disease that was sneaking up on you despite keeping to such a healthy lifestyle.

But they say that vegetables, if taken in raw uncooked form by themselves, can unleash all their medicinal qualities on your body to help it get better. And because you're not eating cooked food, the body doesn't have to take excess amounts of time digesting it and so the nutrients of the vegetables can go straight into your bloodstream.

Now maybe you don't believe that vegetables have any medicinal qualities. I didn't either. But fortunately we can look to the Almighty Internet to look up the health benefits of any herb, fruit or vegetable in modern day existence :) I was amazed at some of the health benefits of the vegetables I started eating. Did you know that pineapple is good for sore throats and teeth? Or that cabbage has natural antibodies in it to kill viruses? Or that mint and spirulina leaves can cure cancer? These are some of the things I quickly discovered when I started researching the fruits and vegetables I was eating.

The results of this diet are anything from clearer skin to curing the common cold to getting a more focused mind, and, I hear, much more than that (see transformational stories on Shazzie's site, here) I have acne problems even now at 33, and a few days on a diet of raw cabbage salad has cleared it right up. No expensive treatments, no topical ointments, no nothing (I did go on an intense acne treatment program in high school but it came back with a poor diet). Just pure homeopathic remedies from vegetables fruits and herbs. From the sites I've seen, they appear to say that one can go through a detoxification stage..I can't say I've had many symptoms yet, maybe partly due to the fact that I was on a low fat diet the past few years. But we'll see what comes.
